HistoryAmidst Spirituality and Love

The history of the Cantico comes from the stories of our predecessors, all united by a common theme: 400 years of history, life, passions… 400 circles of the trunks of the school olive trees that surround it, planted by the friars who laid the first stones of the small convent, chosen because it is a special place, with a view over the lake, full of energy and close to an ancient source of water that still nourishes it today. It is from this spiritual community that the history known to us of this ancient place begins, where the Etruscans affirm its vitality and energy since much more distant times when Mount Penna, which sternly dominates the Cantico, was one of the points of passage on the road between Chiusi and Perugia, 2 of the most illustrious cities of the kingdom of the “Mystical people”.

It was purchased in 1800 by the Noble House of the Pentini, a renowned family, repeatedly mentioned among the nobles in the Heraldic studies, which, at the end of the nineteenth century, expanded the ancient convent, with the characteristic L-shape that makes it unique and singular compared to the typical forms of Umbria-Tuscan farmhouses. For the Pentini Family, the place represented a place of rest and leisure, exciting hunting trips and dinners with friends, “the favourite place” as the last heir Gianfrancesco, esteemed doctor and surgeon, loved to call it. Serving the Pentini were the many families of farmers who experienced, within the walls of the old farmhouse, the birth of their children and made the lands there fertile.

When Francesco and Monia Micci, the current owners, arrived for the first time in 1999 at the old farmhouse that had lain empty since the post-war period, motorbiking along the road in the woods, now almost covered by lush vegetation, they were impressed, in addition to the beautiful location, by the unique atmosphere of this place, which combines the austerity of stone forms with a natural intact environment in a harmony of colours, fragrances and sound sensations. It was almost possible to hear, in the calls of the wind among the olive trees, witnesses of so much history, the voices of the first monastic community and then of the Pentini and their farmers.

This deep contact, this “evoking” of the place, abandoned and in search of a new soul, this “lightning strike”, became a choice of life . Still young, together in love and engaged in the work of consultants, in their free time, they constantly sought out magical places in which to create everlasting memories. The purchase of that property with the enthusiasm and carefreeness of the young couple in love, pursued a double dream: that of creating a special place, where couples like them could enjoy times of romance and relaxation, caring and pampering, and that of changing life, of creating a place for their family future, a choice based on Love and life.

The spirituality of the founding friars was recognised with the Love of Monia and Francesco who, together with the power of nature, have become the new soul of this place, dormant for 50 years. The ancient village has come to life again with the birth of Cantico della Natura whose name is by no means random. It means “spiritual sound” a word taken up by St. Francis, a saint very dear to us Umbrians. On 3 July 2003, with the birth of the first daughter Aurora (followed the next year by Alessandro) arrived the first guests: a timeless place transformed into a Resort of charm. Every year since that day Monia and Francesco have added a new piece to the village, in a logic of constant growth. From choice of life it has become a family history where, its founding values, and its history remain the elements that continue to make it a unique place even today.
